The Princeton Review should be embarrassed to have its name on this book Not only are there outright errors in the answers several of the sample tests have answer keys that clearly do not match the test printed

I help kids prepare for standardized testing and have used other Princeton Review books successfully but this book is a disgrace If you are looking for extra practice tests I would strongly recommend finding a different test prep book

This book contains a number of sample sample tests and fairly complete reviews of many of the answers It is wonderful tool for visual learners My daughter however is not a very visual learner I give it three stars for us because I still ended up needing additional tutoring to supplement the book which I was hoping to avoid I suppose it is a good book insofar as it provides repetition of sample test questions to boost the students awareness of question types to expect on the actual test Anyway she is retaking the ACT test as I type this review and I am hoping that between this book and the additional tutoring that I am done with any ACT expenses and hassle So much riding on a standardized test that really does not always properly reflect the knowledge of a student But I digress

This book is so fantastic I wasn t sure what to expect because there wasn t as much information or reviews as I m used to I was very uneasy about this purchase Wow I really wasted my time This book is amazing The 400 pages are full of ACT questions and answers short listed and explained As of yet I have not seen any tips or tricks just cold hard practice tests and solid detailed instruction in the answers section The pages are NOT made of regular book paper which may be a turn off for some the pages aren t white or laminated They are kind of light brown and a tiny bit scratchy but nothing to complain about You can put your answers on a different paper and take the tests over and over again Which is quite nice

I have not fully examined all of this book I only got it this morning but what I have experienced far exceeds my expectations There are four tests for each section plus writing and essays And like I mentioned before there are short listed answers 1 a 2 d 3 e ect and DETAILED long answers 1 a because you re trying to find x you must first it is such a wonderful aspect I am so thrilled with this and feel that if I study from it often I ll get a good score on my ACT Again DO NOT hesitate

The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde has been called a Victorian parable and it must have been groundbreaking in its time but Robert Louis Stevenson seems to draw heavily on this passage from the Apostle Paul I do not understand what I do For what I want to do I do not do but what I hate I do it is no longer I myself who do it but it is sin living in me Romans 7 15 17 He explores this spiritual struggle with unabashed fervor in a tale still talked about over a hundred years later

The story no longer than a novella reads quickly Told through second hand accounts and letters similar to Stoker s Dracula the tale s violence and mayhem are never directly experienced through the eyes of a victim or the perpetrator which made it more palatable for its original audience but makes it somewhat distant for those bred on Silence of the Lambs We have no clear protagonist no clear definition of the next victim of Mr Hyde s brutality we have only snippets of letters and glimpses of a broken body Stevenson manages to create a sense of foreboding and the good doctor s final confessions are chilling in that they describe the common struggle that all humans encounter within fighting for the moral and ethical high ground

Sadly the story doesn t hold up as well as hoped to the test of time It lacks true suspense and there s little mystery to be found In an era of Victorian virtue though it was surely shocking to have a writer admit to that struggle within and portray it in vivid terms

I m glad to have read the book for myself and I believe it was foundational in the evolution of psychological suspense

Jekyll and Hyde is commonly evoked to describe someone with a split personality Stevenson s novel is not really about a split personality but rather a dual physical and spiritual nature struggling for control of one person In this struggle Dr Jekyll doesn t just assume a different personality he actually becomes Mr Hyde

Presbyterian Pastor Tim Keller has a good brief analysis of parts of the Jekyll and Hyde story in his book The Reason for God Belief in an Age of Skepticism Hardcover Keller pinpoints a key point in the story noting that it s in a moment of vainglory that Dr Jekyll involuntary transforms into Mr Hyde This transformation occurs as Dr Jekyll sits on a bench in Regents Park thinking about all the good he has been doing and how much better man he was despite Edward Hyde than the great majority of people

All this to say that Stevenson s novel goes far deeper than a psychoanalytic study of a split personality it s about a profound spiritual struggle of the evil and good nature within a person

This is a great classic This story brings to life the battle each one of us has within ourselves Dr Jekyll calls it his dualtiy of purpose The struggle of good versus evil told in that colorful language of classics

I bought this book about 3 years ago I am a progressive care nurse and am extremely proud to own this book I refer this book for everything Recently I passed PCCN mainly using this book it took me just 4 weeeks to review and pass the exam the 1st time The layout is excellent information is short to the point and presented with tables and pictures that one need to refer to The great Saunder s style

The tests at the end of the chapters are stimulating and keeps one interested The CD included is one of the best that I have used so far They have answers rationales and even explanations for strategies to use all in either System or test formats that mimic the actual certification exam About 1000 questions You can do it in increments of 10 questions per test for those who do not have time at hand I would like to believe that we nurses do not and should not acquire knowledge just only for the sake of a certification exam We also need to remember the materials we learn to implement in everyday s practice pass it on to other collegues and also adopt intelligent choices to make a difference in our patient s lives be a true professional armed with knowledge This book will certainly help you to do just that

For all those who want a quick fix for the certification exam they are better of to buy study material package specifically geared for the particular exam rather than this book Although the title says CCRN it is an extremely valuable tool for all Progressive care colleagues Thank you Robin and thanks to Amazon for making this book available at a cheaper price than anywhere else

I received my MBA a few years ago in a school across the river from Harvard Business School We used the case method also and I have to say our program was more difficult than HBS Why Some of our instructors spoke such poor English that they were almost unintelligible People at HBS have great instructors Now about the book

Reading about what the courses were like and how teams sat around discussing financial ratios and balance sheets was a bore The author was overwhelmed by the curriculum because he was a journalist not an analytical type People who did best in business school were finance majors and project managers Not nurses microbiologists or English majors HBS wanted a diverse mix of students

Ahead of the Curve could have been a course description in a catalog I found Organizational Behavior myself to be a challenging course Operations Management fun Why HBS needed a math camp was a mystery to me If applicants couldn t do simple algebra they should not have been admitted Ratio analysis is simple fractions

What I got from this book is HBS is an elite school for the elite It s expensive and geared towards Wall Street and the old boy network When I interviewed for engineering jobs I was told about HBS hot shots who tried and failed to be productive There s a glut of MBA s The HBS degree opens doors closed to ordinary people with MBA s George W Bush received his MBA from Harvard People at Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have Harvard MBA s They were responsible for the financial meltdown recently In all fairness people who wrote the software for the derivatives models were not MBA s

An MBA doesn t mean much if you re an idiot Rupert Murdoch dropped out of school at the age of 15 Bill Gates never got a degree If you need a HBS degree to get ahead maybe you should look at yourself more closely

Wouldn t have read the book except that my two engineer sons are thinking about MBAs I was always curious about what exactly they taught you at HBS and this book pretty much tells you that And also how much the 2 years cost 175 000 I got the impression at first that this was going to be a negative book but it didn t turn out that way Nice anecdotes throughout the book which I enjoyed

I was disheartened to see how many grads went to Wall Street I was hoping that all this effort was to make the American and world economies better with new ideas for tangible stuff instead of the financial product crap that we have now So much for that Go to HBS and learn how to play financial hot potato Luckily we have a government that can print money and bail these creeps out

Saw one minor error which the fact checker should have got Averell Harriman s father E H was president of the Union Pacific Railroad not the U S Pacific Railroad And one an editor should have got principle/agent should of course be principal/agent Again proving what my disgruntled writer friend told me 40 years ago Those that can t do teach and those who can t do or teach edit

Hope that Mr Broughton has found his post HBS niche and not one like Bob Dylan sang about 20 years of schoolin and they put you on the day shift

This book give you an overview of the HBS curriculum Of course the experience of the author is subjective Nevertheless the author provides interesting details and gives the reader a good sense of life as an MBA student In addition he explains various business concepts e g how do venture capitalists earn etc and also describes the interview processes of major companies such as Google and other consulting companies It is definitely an interesting read

I teach AP World History and I bought this guide for one of my students who was not able to afford one And after he used it to raise his scores overall I concluded that it was a good nutshell and took a harder look at it

Apart from the fact that I have several national colleagues who recommend it my thoughts are that this book does an excellent job explaining in very easy even calm language just how to tackle multiple choice and essay questions on the AP World History examination However it is weak on content So the other reviewer in this thread is exactly right when he suggests that this nutshell and the Princeton and I would add Kaplan should be purchased as a set Together and used diligently as the AP World History course progresses I cannot see how they would fail to provide something of a boost as well as making the student more confident as he or she works through the review exercises

But IMPORTANT NOTE There is a distinct possibility that the College Board may be making significant changes to the format of the AP World History examination starting in academic year 2011 2012 So if you are thinking about a used purchase in that year or later please check the College Board s website to make sure that this book or earlier printings will serve It likely will not at least for any essay portion so it is something to bear in mind before the money is spent

This is a great concise prep for the AP esp if you / your child are not in a class that teaches how to take the AP It gives very clear guidelines as to how to answer the questions there are marks for specific elements of the answer and an overview of the thematic approach The Princeton Review book has more actual subject review and is a good complement to this one but I would highly recommend getting them as a pair
