Kaplan GRE Exam Math Workbook
>> Lots of practice
Lots of exercises and more in depth explanations for when a crash review is not enough It could easily become an elemental math/algebra/geometry/statistics review textbook and at the same time contains lots of tips to prepare you for the standardized nature of the GRE
The book is kind of heavy but the material is durable
>> A decent starting point but deceptively easy
I found this book helpful but once it came to test day it only took me so far I would say there are two main issues First the quantitative comparison questions in the workbook are far too simplistic The only ones I actually encountered on the test were similar to the hardest presented in each practice test In these situations the very detailed problem solving you ve learned elsewhere in the book are relatively useless When you have 1 minute per question you can t really solve anything There should be more focus on shortcuts The second issues is that the book doesn t seem to address permutations and groups in much detail You know those How many different numbers can you creating using the digits 1 through 9 with no repetition and in descending order type questions My version of the GRE was crawling with these and I was ill equipped to handle them
Overall I m content with this as a study starting point I m glad I used it and all of the practice problems and explanations were very helpful but I wouldn t go so far as to say it will leave you fully prepared for the quant test But I guess that s why they re trying to pit the Comprehensive book instead Ah well best of luck
>> surprising
I read the other good reviews about this book and decided it would be worth trying out even though I had very little time before taking the GRE to study with the book I have it under good authority the brand Kaplan since it helped on my other standardized test scores and this proved to be VERY helpful as well It helped me raise my math score by over 100 pts which was totally exciting since I never was a math wizard or anything I would highly recommend this book for other to use as well
